Learning How To Learn

Preparing Young People in the Information Age

There’s an old proverb dating back to the 17th century:

“Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day; teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime.”

Helping students learn certain subjects is part of any school. Though what’s even more fundamental and needed in early education is teaching children how to learn any subject they choose.

At the Griffinwood Academy, we believe this is the single-most important element missing in most children’s education.

Kids are told what to learn, but they aren’t being taught how to learn.

When children finally do learn how to learn, they become more self-sufficient as students, take greater initiative in school and their responsibility for their own education increases.

STARTING A LIFETIME OF LEARNING

In this Information Age, education no longer ends with a college diploma, so we believe schools shouldn’t only teach for one either.

The ability to educate oneself is a modern hallmark of future success and happiness.

At Griffinwood, how children learn this ability is through a breakthrough in education called the Study Technology.

Study Technology isn’t just another system. It doesn’t involve minor study tips or gimmicks like speed-reading or memory tricks.

Rather, Study Technology is rooted in the fundamental laws of education and encompasses an understanding of the learning process itself. It’s a workable methodology that makes it possible for a student to recognize and handle the precise barriers to study that prevent comprehension and the ability to apply what one is trying to learn.

Children who read to the bottom of a page and “forget” what they’ve just read, who feel bored or frustrated with study, act out or misbehave in school, or want to give up on a subject altogether, may all be traced back to one of these barriers in their education.

Every one of these issues can be resolved with the Study Technology.

Moreover, when students learn these solutions, then they now know to avoid such issues and get the most out of what they’re studying. The result is greater understanding and success in learning, in the classroom and out in life.

Study Technology is a secular methodology for study, developed by American educator and philosopher, L. Ron Hubbard.

Some of our courses that teach this technology include: Learning How to Learn, Study Skills for Life and Grammar and Communication for Children.
